The Civil War
Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War leading his troops
During the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln played the role of Commander in Chief and Chief of Staff. Lincoln had strategic logic, except for some mistakes, such as choosing the correct man to head the armies. Some people claim that he was too soft on his soldiers, as he often granted pardon to soldiers who had deserted or fell asleep on duty. However, Lincoln could be very tough when it came to planning the defeat of the Confederacy. Finally, the Civil War ended, on April 9th, 1865.
